Wellington Lifestyle and Reputation for Equestrian-related Excellence
Located close to West Palm Beach and Royal Palm Beach, the Village of Wellington enjoys a well-deserved reputation as a destination location for the affluent as well as a mixture of celebrities, business leaders and members of international society. With its renowned world-class equestrian atmosphere and reputation as “the Winter Equestrian Capital of the World” along with Money Magazine’s designation of Wellington as one of the "top 100" Best Places to Live in 2010”, Wellington attracts equestrian and polo aficionados from a myriad of global locations.
Wellington is the proud host for many national and international equestrian events. The Global Dressage Festival, USPA Piaget Gold Cup and the Nespresso U.S. Polo Open as well as the famed Winter Equestrian Festival are all held in the area as well as the delightful social events associated with these prestigious happenings. Equestrian fans will find Wellington to be a veritable paradise. With over 57 miles of riding trails, the full range of equestrian disciplines are well-loved and supported here. Polo, show jumping, dressage, hunter jumper, pony camps and much more are all practiced and the true beauty of the sport is exemplified by both the Village of Wellington as well as its inhabitants.
Wellington and its surrounding area are home to the Wellington Equestrian Partners (WEP), The Wellington Equestrian Preservation Alliance (WEPA) and The International Polo Club Palm Beach (IPC). With the support and partnership of these organizations and many others, the Wellington area boasts unequaled equestrian amenities such as the 8,000 acre equestrian preserve and the recently announced construction of the much anticipated Equestrian Village show grounds and equestrian development. This recent announcement has the community abuzz regarding its strong potential to field a winning bid to host the FEI World Cup Finals and the 2018 FEI World Equestrian Games.
Golfing aficionados will feel just as home in Wellington as their equestrian counterparts. Multiple championship golf courses designed by some of the most famous names in the sport are playable within a few minutes drive and Wellington’s own Palm Beach Polo Golf and Country Club has been a permanent fixture in South Florida for over thirty years. Featuring two 18-hole championship golf courses that weave in-between Mediterranean-inspired residential neighborhoods, two clubhouses, 8 polo fields, and a pair of croquet lawns, members of this club truly experience the ultimate golfing lifestyle.
Any description of a distinguished location such as Wellington would be incomplete without bringing attention to its top-performing schools, numerous beautiful parks, fine dining and entertainment options, close-at-hand shopping and extraordinary estates and communities. Additionally, Wellington residents enjoy convenient access to all the major transportation arteries of the area as well as being a short drive from Palm Beach International Airport. With amenities and creature comforts such as these, The Village of Wellington and surrounding area are a haven for those who truly appreciate the finer things in life.
A Brief Wellington History
Once known as the "World's Largest Strawberry Patch", the area that would later be known as the Village of Wellington was originally an undeveloped, rural area until east coast banker and investor, Charles Oliver Wellington purchased the land with the intention of creating an intimate master planned community.
As time progressed, Wellington experienced steady growth and development and by the 1970's, was considered locally as a suburb of West Palm Beach. After incorporation as an independent municipality in 1995, Wellington began to transform into the distinguished destination it is known as today.
While still providing a hometown and family oriented environment for its residents, prospective home purchasers in Wellington have a large variety of stunning home options to consider and select from. Whether you are seeking a modest single-family residence with land, a larger home with amazing amenities situated in one of Wellington’s many new gated communities, an opulent and expansive equestrian estate complete with stabling and training facilities, or a luxury estate with your own private air strip, you can find all that and more in Wellington.
