The Village of Royal Palm Beach
Royal Palm Beach Lifestyle and Local Facts
The village of Royal Palm Beach is located in the central portion of Palm Beach County and encompasses an area of 11.5 sq. miles. Within those city boundaries lie 29-miles of shimmering waterways and 336 acres devoted specifically to public green space and parks for the purpose of bettering the environment and surroundings of Royal Palm Beach residents.
Recognized as one of Family Circle Magazine’s 2008 “Top Ten Best Towns for Families”, the Village of Royal Palm Beach is a community perfectly suited to both retirees and growing families alike. The village’s devotion to the preservation and enjoyment of its tropical surroundings and gorgeous flora and fauna has resulted in its coveted designation as a “Tree City USA” locale. Additionally, the entire city area is recognized as an official bird sanctuary.
With a population of just under 35,000 residents, Royal Palm Beach maintains a charming small town feel with strong family ties, yet still providing its residents a special and unique quality-of-life near the best of south Florida amenities in neighboring communities. The village boasts a large number of lovely parks with fully developed recreational facilities as well as one of the highest green space to resident per capita averages in the state. A stunning 747 acre nature preserve can be found in the northwest corner of town providing wonderful opportunities for hiking and horseback riding. Additionally, Royal Palm Beach boasts its own state-of-the-art cultural center as well as two fantastic golf courses within actual city limits.
As a part of Palm Beach County, Royal Palm Beach schools are all members of the well-respected Palm Beach County School District and several A-rated schools lie within community borders. Commuters will appreciate the village’s proximity to the local major thoroughfares and transportation arteries and Palm Beach International Airport is a relatively short drive away for trips outside the area.
Royal Palm Beach Historical Notes
Originally a hunting ground for Seminole Native Americans, the area that became Royal Palm Beach was incorporated in 1959 after prior land purchases and exchanges resulted in Miami developer, Arthur Desser’s owning the majority of land in the vicinity and earmarking 4,200 acres for his vision of a superior residential development.
After some financial difficulties in the early 1960’s, Desser’s interests in the area were sold to Sam Friedman who spearheaded additional development and civil improvements along with the establishment of the Royal Palm Beach Colony Inc. in order to ensure and manage future development endeavors. The village experienced steady population growth and commercial development over the next several decades and benefited further from the investment in the community made by Palms West Hospital and Wellington Regional Medical Center. Both created major campuses in the area during the late 1980’s and have ongoing expansion projects contributing to the vitality of the community.
Royal Palm Beach Residences
The majority of residences in Royal Palm Beach are single family homes. Due to the diversity and range of incomes that can be found in this family community, lot sizes, square footage of home and accompanying amenities can vary greatly. That being said, Royal Palm Beach is also known for excellent gated family communities with large lots and acreage as well as the majority of these communities not having HOA fees providing for a very attractive value. Estate-sized residences can also be found for those seeking equine facilities or simply desirous of the privacy that can be found here.
