Like many communities in the south Florida area, the area that would later be known as Lake Worth experienced its first significant organized settlements in the late 1890's as Henry Flagler's famed rail line made its way south and helped make the area considerably more accessible. The land that Lake Worth currently occupies was originally owned by former slaves, Samuel and Fannie James until the year 1911, when they saw fit to sell the majority of their holdings to the Palm Beach Farms Company.

In 1912, Lake Worth was officially incorporated and major investment in infrastructure projects and improvements soon commenced. Lake Avenue was soon graded and made suitable for greater traffic loads and work began on the 1,000 ft. dock extending into Lake Worth Lagoon. Local favorite, Bryant Park also saw its beginnings during this period and remains a vital aspect of the community today where outdoor festivals, concerts and performances at the band shell are regular happenings.
