The City of Boynton Beach
Boynton Beach Geography and Demographics
Boynton Beach is a charming tropical city across the Intracoastal Waterway from the beachfront cities of Briny Ridge and Briny Breezes. As the third largest city in Palm Beach County, Boynton Beach has a current population of just over 68,000 people and is enjoying an increased growth rate in terms of both full-time and seasonal residents.
With a revitalized downtown area redevelopment project, a multi-million dollar marina project and a host of business development options, Boynton Beach is a city with a sense of community and an eye on the future making it a favorite locale of prospective homeowners, families and retirees alike. Offering lifestyle options from condominiums, luxury single family homes, estate homes, “old Florida” style neighborhoods and upscale rental communities, Boynton Beach has something to offer to all demographics.
The History of Boynton Beach
In 1894, American Civil War veteran, Major Nathan Boynton was the first to recognize the incredible potential of the area that was to later become Boynton Beach. He was presented with a place where sun soaked days are the norm, pristine beaches were everywhere and the tropical climate and vegetation made for the ideal spot for the cultivation of fruits and vegetables. He soon built a hotel bearing his name and settled the area with his family and friends from Michigan.
Boynton Beach was incorporated in 1920 and grew exponentially after World War II when returning soldiers discovered and popularized the previously relatively unknown gem of a town. Located only fifty miles north of Miami, Boynton Beach experienced a residential boom when families began to take advantage of the city’s close proximity to extraordinary beachfront and natural beauty while still being close to south Florida’s major metropolitan areas. Boynton has enjoyed great residential growth, intelligently managed development and a vital local economy that has never ceased.
This extraordinary growth in new construction has resulted in Boynton Beach becoming one the most highly desirable locations in south Florida. In particular, retirees seeking the finest in active adult communities with clubhouses and resort-style amenities that compare more than favorably with the finest of resorts and country clubs, are discovering that a Boynton Beach home is exactly what they were seeking.
